Farm and ranch photography is a true passion of mine. This is where I began my love of photography. Farming and ranching has evolved quickly over the years. It is a business where generations of family members are often involved. Creating fine art portraits of farm and ranch families to hand down to future generations is very important to me. Once those moments pass, they are gone forever. Like the farm or ranch, images of those who built and maintained the land should be part of the legacy.
I grew up in a farming and ranching family and have a passion for that way of life. Looking through family photos, my favorites were always of people who were not posed, but were going about their day. All of the photos were small snapshots, taken with poor quality cameras. Over time the color has faded. None of the photos were displayed, but they were placed in a box to be dug through at a later date. These photos inspired me to photograph families at work and play to document their relationships and their way of life. I work to create photographs that could be prominently displayed in a home and handed down for generations. Sometimes the most treasured photos are those of Dad working on his combine or branding a calf. And there is Grandma serving meals to the men working in the fields. Children helping to bottle feed calves or riding out to gather cattle. Wives that run errands, bring meals, and watch over the children. Men and women working side by side making sure the job gets done. And there are the neighbors who are always there to lend a helping hand. Then there is that special horse that cuts a cow or holds a rope tight while the cowboy doctors a sick calf. And we can’t forget the dog that rides in the truck being a buddy until he is needed to put in a stray calf or push cattle up a chute when loading trucks or processing calves. There is sometimes an old barn that great-grandpa built that has seen its better days. All of those things that have a special place in someone’s heart are worthy of being recorded in a fine art photo. I have been photographing ranches and their cowboys for several years. I love going to their farms and ranches to record their daily life.
